3 Reasons to Network Now

Congratulations! You’re a hip-hop artist with a new single that has been uploaded to SoundCloud or you have a couple hundred followers on Instagram.  Now what? Do you have a relationship with a dope producer, manager or mixing engineer? Probably not but, that’s okay.

Networking is important for your rap career. (Believe it or not)

In fact, you need to be constantly networking and marketing your music and creativity so that you can continue to grow.

Networking may seem like a daunting and difficult task, however, it’s necessary if you want to begin to work with new people that may assist you with inching closer to your goal of success.

Some people dread the thought of trying to make small talk with others. Others are so shy that they have a hard time attending networking events. Then, there are those who are not good at networking at all, no matter how hard they try.

Here are three reasons to network now. (not later)

  1. Build your confidence
Let’s be honest, networking can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t know anyone.  Meeting new people is a skill, just like any other, that requires practice.

With preparation and practice, that itching feeling of embarrassment will soon fade.  Commit to networking with confidence! Stick to the basics: good eye contact and a firm handshake – but more importantly, loosen up and enjoy it!

2. Create Partnerships
Do not underestimate the power of networking. Create valuable partnerships to minimize costs. Don’t be afraid to ask producers or managers for advice. Ask peers to make an introduction.

Be creative. You will be surprised at how far partnerships and relationships can take you.

3. Create your own luck
Many people blame failure on bad luck, but I believe bad luck does not exist. Every person creates their own luck by a) being positive and believing that they’ll succeed and b) working hard and being persistent.
